    Masters Hockey Over 50's.

A couple of photos from the Home Nations Competition in Swansea which was held over the weekend of 8/9/10 June 2018.  It was a clean sweep for England in all ages groups which was wonderful.

Photos from the Over 50s Age Group – where both Sue Willers and Mel Linnell were playing (and flying the flag for both Towcester and Northants).

They are now preparing for the World Cup and leave on 26 July for Barcelona.  Good luck to all involved.

  • Kettering HC. England Hockey Club of the Year

Posted by Angi Harrell on 29 May 2018

Kettering Hockey Club received national recognition for the progress they have made this year when, at the England Hockey Awards evening in Leicester, they were presented with the NottsSport Club of the Year Award. This is the most prestigious award of the evening which celebrates Hockey from grass roots to international level.

The capacity 500 audience including gold medal winning Olympians, current internationals and  representatives of other nominated clubs were there to see Sam Quek present Kettering chairperson Jaime Cox with the award.

Jaime commented “ WOW!!! What a night!!! We are still very much in shock at being named ‘Notts Sport Club of the Year 2018’!!! I don’t think many of us got much sleep last night and our ‘Executive Committee Whatsapp Group’ has been going nuts since.  This award will help not to just put Kettering Hockey Club on the National Map, but help EH promote the sport that we all love to other people by sharing our experiences and giving something back to EH, who have clearly believed in us!!”

The Award is a reflection of the work that goes into running a successful club both on and off the field. Off the pitch the Club have reorganised their committee structure to be more streamlined and now have a robust business plan and development plan in place. The Club have innovative ideas that are now being used by other clubs such as free shirts for officials. They take their role in the community seriously and donate a percentage of their fundraising to local charities.

This off field structure has led to unprecedented success on the field. This year alone the Mens 1s, for the second year running, and Men’s 2s were promoted and the Ladies 2s have moved into a regional league. The Club currently run 4 ladies and 4 men’s teams as well as under 14, 12, 10 and 8s. Older players are catered for by entering Masters competitions for over 45 ladies and Over 50 men.

The Hockey Club, which is part of the larger Kettering Sports Club, also have an active social scene and run various functions throughout the year.

Jaime’s speech on the night reflected that all the hard work doesn’t just happen and paid tribute to all the volunteers who make the Club so successful.

Chief Executive of England Hockey, Sally Munday, commented “Congratulations, a well-deserved award and it is really great to see how much it means to the club”.

Kettering are now waiting to see if they will be shortlisted for European Club of the Year.

KHC have been shortlisted for England hockey 'Notts Sport Club of the Year'

England Hockey announced the shortlists of clubs and individuals nominated for their prestigious end of season awards and Kettering HC are delighted to have made it onto the short list for Notts Sport Club of the Year.

EH website announced the news -

"On the evening of Saturday 19th May, at the Athena in Leicester, hockey lovers from all over the country will gather at the England Hockey Awards Dinner to celebrate the achievements of volunteers, umpires, coaches and players over the past year.

The quality of the nominees in each of the categories was once again exceptionally high, making for some tough decisions for the England Hockey selection panel. We are, however, delighted to now announce the following shortlist.

Notts Sport Club of the Year
    Tower Hamlets
    Durham Dales
    Hampstead & Westminster
    K Sport
    Aldershot & Farnham "

This is a great reflection on all the hard work that has gone into this year being probably the most successful in recent history with no less than three teams winning promotion as champions of their leagues. We have also made huge strides off the pitch and have exceeded the expectations of with our progress administratively as well as our charity work and efforts to make KHC as good as it can be for its members.

  • General Data Protection Regulations

The General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) will come into effect on 25 May 2018 and will replace the Data Protection Act (DPA). Legal advice suggests that GDPR does not present a drastic overhaul to the current DPA framework but rather, it plugs gaps, or strengthens existing rights and obligations and defines certain concepts more precisely.

  • Time to Listen Course 21/03/18

Posted by Angi Harrell on 12 December 2017

    Dear all,

Northamptonshire Sport are hosting a Time to Listen course on Wed, 21 Mar 2018 (18:30 - 21:30) at Moulton College its £35 per person. England Hockey would recommend you send a couple of representatives as Time To Listen courses are not held locally very often and it is worth having a few club members trained so that you can discuss how to manage the club with regard to welfare issues. People who should take the course would be Lead/Head coaches in bigger clubs, Welfare officers, Club Chair/President

    The workshop will:

    ·         Describe how a club welfare officer works with others to create a child centred environment

    ·         Explain how the club welfare officer role fits into the wider safeguarding environment

    ·         Apply learning to case studies including sharing good safeguarding practice

To book on the course follow the link  https://www.northamptonshiresport.org/events/2018/03/time-to-listen---multisport1

    ·         If you want your club to be invoiced then contact lucy.alexander@firstforwellbeing.co.uk or call Lucy on 07841784264 (Please do this when you book on or the system can’t accept you).

    ·         N.B. If your club is invoiced then you are liable for VAT, if your coaches book on as individuals then the price is as stated on the booking portal.

    ·         If you plan to attend, you will need England Hockey’s Safeguarding SafeD resource and have it before the course, you can contact Stuart Thomas at head office and as long as you order one week before the course it should get to you.

    Any questions just ask?
